How to Choose Your Bar Stools

Standard Heights

Most bar stools are available in at least two standard heights, "Bar Height" and "Counter Height".  The height of the stools you need is determined by the height of your counter, table, or bar.  See the illustration below to determine your height.  Remember: Seat heights vary from style to style, so rarely will the seat actually be an exact hieght.

Counter Height (Seat is 24-26")

Other Heights

Sometimes you have a counter or table that doesn't fall within the standard heights.  It's either taller (such as a 46" high bar), or shorter (such as a 30" high table).  The heights you need are as follows:

Surface Height: 29-31" Stool Height: 17-19" (Chair Height)
Surface Height: 44" or Higher Stool Height: 34-36" (Spectator Height)

Spacing

The width of a barstool is important when choosing how many will fit at your counter.  Keep in mind that you need enough room to get between them and sit. Arms will need more space than armless stools.
